Things To Do

Les Guittieres is perfectly placed for whatever your interests are, whether it be Chateaux or cycling, shopping or wine you can find it all within an hour or two from here.

The Loire Valley is famous for its numerous chateaux and just 20 mins away is Chateau du Lude with its origins dating back as early as the 10th century. Further a field and one visit we would highly recommend is Chateau de Chenonceau with its beautiful bridge; moat and formal gardens. If fun is what your after then take a day at one of the lakes, Mansigne, La Flèche, Marcon all have a beach, kids playground, walks, picnic areas, water sports, fishing and safe swimming areas.

There are two major cities easily accessible from us, The multicultural city of Le Mans to the north with its famous race track hosting the Le Mans 24hr race, MotoGP and Classic races for which we’ve had many guests over the years. The gothic cathedral and central shopping areas offer a diverse experience in the city and there are many large retail zones and sporting activities surrounding the city itself including a watersports park. There’s no shortage of bars, cafes and restaurants to relax and reflect here either. To the South of us is the city of Tours steeped in history and vibrant, its a great day out where you can enjoy a cosmopolitan vibe. It has great shopping, eateries and a must visit medieval quarter.

If the outdoors is what you’re after then road cycling, mountain biking and walking is all literally on your doorstep with great trails through Sarce forest or the forest de Berce. There are also numerous fishing lakes the closest being in Sarce and Ecommoy.

There are a number of zoos varying in size and distance, La Flèche is the closest but also the smallest, further a field approximately an hour and a half drive is ZooParc de Beauval and the Bioparc zoo De-Doue-La Fontaine, Beauval is the furthest to travel to but in our opinion it’s well worth the journey, it has the most beautiful setting and a spectacular bird display amongst other things for the family to enjoy.

You can enjoy kayaking and are not short of places to go, along with the numerous lakes all free to use we are surrounded by opportunities. You can hire a kayak from Malicorne-sur-Sarthe by the hour and meander up the Sarthe river taking in the gardens of the chateau and many beautiful gardens of the properties along the river bank passing through a lock on route.

The Loire valley is a wine region and if wine is your thing then Tours, Vouvray and Saumur are areas you may want to explore, there are several wine tours available for you to enjoy.

You can of course relax and chill out in the 9 acres of grounds at Les Guittieres and enjoy the quiet surroundings taking in the Flora and abundant wildlife, with deer, red squirrel, wild boar and various species of birds all of which are equally at home, its a great opportunity for photographers to capture and for artists to paint.

There are many troglodyte caves in the Anjou Loire region that are showcased and available for you to visit. At Les Guittieres we have a number of these caves which more recently in the 17th century were used by the staff of the Chateau de Sarceau now the Manoir de Sarceau to store wine as the caves keep an ambient cool temperature. They were also used to bake bread and produce cidre. The old bread oven is still on show in the caves as is the cidre press.
